Delta Narratives

this is copy about the ambassadors program. we will talk about the very first day and explain a little bit about what was happening.

There were ten of them all together, spanning almost three generations.  Some shuffled into the room using canes, others hopped down the stairs and beelined for the breakfast table, but none of them came alone. They helped each other to their seats, they served each other food, they laughed together. And when the first speaker took the podium, they all turned towards the front together.

They’re brought together by a love for each other, and more than that by a love for this place: the Mississippi delta. The delta was the birthplace of the civil rights movement, of the blues, of many iconic American figures and much of American culture.  But it is also a place of deep poverty and oppression, an image which for many years has eclipsed it’s rich history and contributions to our country.

Armed with a love for their communities and their home, each ambassador brought a kind of fierceness to the conference room that day, a readiness to take that story—their story—back.
